About PO Closures
The Post Office is in the middle of a process to close 2,500 Post Offices across the country. This closure programme was approved
by the then Secretary of State for Industry Alastair Darling in 2007.
To implement the closure programme, The Post Office has divided the country into some 50 areas. For each area a list of
proposed closures are published and then the public has 6 weeks to comment and object. A few weeks after the end of the consultation
process, the final closure list is confirmed. The Post Office has committed to apply the closure principles equally across
all areas.
Stakeholders - such as local councils and Postwatch, the industry watchdog - see the proposed list 6 weeks ahead of publication
and are able to comment and request changes.
Bretforton's area - Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands - will be the very last area for consultation,
starting on the 27th of August 2008.
